Day 1:
Departure Flight.
Day 2: Basingstoke
Arrive at London airport, and transfer to The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, in the village of Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire, which was the home of the children's and short story writer Roald Dahl for 36 years. Continue on to the lovely village of Chawton, and Jane Austen's House. The pretty, 17th century building, where she revised 'Pride And Prejudice,' is now a museum for items connected with the author and her family. Overnight in the Basingstoke area.
Day 3: Torquay
This morning, view Jane Austen's house in Winchester, where she spent her final days. Board your coach, and enjoy the lovely scenery enroute to Higher Bockhampton, Dorset, birthplace of Thomas Hardy. He lived here until the age of thirty-four, during which time he wrote 'Under the Greenwood Tree' and 'Far From the Maddening Crowd.' Continue on to Torquay, to enjoy an Agatha Christie-themed cruise.
Day 4: Somerset
Board your coach and head for Cornwall, so beloved by Daphne Du Maurier, author of 'Rebecca,' 'Frenchman's Creek,' 'My Cousin Rachel,' and of course 'Jamaica Inn.' Included visit to Jamaica Inn, where you will view a memorial room full of memorabilia, as well as her Sheraton writing desk. Dinner and overnight in the Somerset area.
Day 5: Warwickshire
Morning visit to the charming town of Bath, with its Georgian mansions. Depart for Stratford-upon-Avon and an included visit to William Shakespeare's Birthplace, highlighted by a Shakespeare Theater Performance. Dinner and overnight in Warwickshire.
Day 6: Cumbria
Depart Stratford, and view picturesque English scenery as you motor to the Lake District and a visit to William Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, where he and his sister spent over eight years of "plain living, but high thinking." During this period, Wordsworth wrote much of the poetry for which he is remembered today. Leave the world of Wordsworth's poetry and enter the Beatrix Potter Experience, also found in the Lake District. See the many delightful characters of Beatrix Potter, brought to life in a magical indoor recreation of the Lakeland countryside, complete with sights, sounds and even smells, as well as the Miss Potter room. Dinner and overnight in Cumbria.
Day 7: Herriot - Bedford
More spectacular scenery as you journey to the town of Thirsk in North Yorkshire to visit the James Herriot Experience. Explore the original home (Skeldale House) and surgery of the world's most famous vet, and author of the heart-warming series of books (starting with 'All Creatures Great and Small') depicting his life in "the Dales." Depart North Yorkshire, riding over rolling moorlands, and arrive in Haworth, West Yorkshire at the Bronte Parsonage, honoring the Bronte sisters. The sisters spent most of their lives here, inspired by their surroundings, and wrote their famous novels here. Continue on to Bedford for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: London
Panoramic orientation tour of London this morning. Stop at Westminster Abbey for a look at the Poet's Corner, followed by entrance into the Globe Theater. Included London Theatre Performance this evening.
Day 9:
Transfer to the airport for your return flight.
