Teach By Travel - Hiking in Provence - France


*For groups of 10-15 travelers in good health and ready for adventure!


Day 1:
Departure Flight.

Day 2: Paris - Avignon
Overnight flight to Paris. Arrive in Paris to board the TGV train to Avignon. See the Palais des Papes and the old city before dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Avignon - Pont du Gard
After breakfast, transfer to Rochefort du Gard to begin a scenic 5-hour hike through the forest of Rochefort and the fields surrounding the Gard river. Cross Castillon du Gard, an ancient village of Provence. Arrive at the magnificent Pont du Gard, built over 2000 years ago. Enjoy time to canoe/kayak, swim, or relax before dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Beaucaire - Tarascon
After breakfast, cross Pont du Gard and transfer to Saint Bonnet du Gard, a charming town, before lunch in the Middle-Ages castle at Meynes, overlooking the Gard. Continue south to Tarascon on the Rhone River to see Tarascon’s castle, part of the dominating Charlemagne empire of the 9th century. Dinner and overnight in Tarascon.

Day 5: Les Baux de Provence
Leave Tarascon after breakfast to hike along the crest of the Alpilles to Les Baux de Provence with a picnic lunch on the way. See the village’s old fort and ruins upon arrival before dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Glanum - Fontvielle - Montmajour - Arles
Continue crossing the Alpilles north to Glanum, romanized by Julius Caesar himself. One more mile to go before reaching St-Remy de Provence - see the sites that inspired Van Gogh and enjoy a visit to the museum. Afternoon transfer to Fontvieille to take the ‘petit train des Alpilles’ to the ancient Romanized city of Arles for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Arles - Aigues Mortes
Visit the Roman Ampitheater before transfer to the Montagne des Cordes to visit the 10th century Roman abbey of Montmajour. Transfer to the Middle-Age city of Aigues-Mortes, where you will have time for lunch and exploration of the walled city including the Canal du Rhone and the Aigues-Mortes port. Dinner and overnight in Aigues-Mortes.

Day 8: Aigues Mortes
Board your coach bound for the middle of the Camargue area, with 10 miles of ponds, rice fields and ranches breeding horses, cows and bulls. Enjoy a 3-hour horse ride to see the Camargue landscapes and wild beaches. Overnight in Aigues Mortes.

Day 9: Paris
Transfer to TGV bound for Paris this morning. Upon arrival, a local guide escorts you around the city to see Notre Dame Cathedral, the Champs-Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, and much more. Finish with an inside visit to the Louvre museum. Your afternoon is free to remain in the Louvre or continue sightseeing on your own. End your journey with magnificent views of Paris at your dinner in the Restaurant 58 Tour Eiffel, followed by an evening Seine River Cruise.

Day 10:
Return flight.
