Teach By Travel - Pilgrimage in Frace - France
Day 1:
Departure Flight.
Day 2: Paris
Arrive Paris airport, meet your Teach By Travel tour manager, and transfer to your hotel for check-in. After your orientation briefing, time to explore on your own before dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Paris
The City of Light awaits you! This morning's guided city sightseeing tour includes the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs-Elysées, the Eiffel Tower, and Notre Dame, concluding with entrance to the world-famous Louvre. Free afternoon to remain in the Louvre, venture to Sacre Coeur for spectacular views of the city, or stroll through the Latin Quarter. Dinner and overnight in Paris.
Day 4: Vézelay - Nevers
Depart Paris and journey to Vézelay, a traditional starting point since medieval times for the Way of St. James walk, a pilgrimage to visit the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela, where it is believed that the remains of St. James are buried. Visit the basilica before continuing to Nevers to see the magnificent Cathedral St-Cyr et Ste-Juliette and its impressive stained glass windows. View the lovely and immaculately kept convent St-Gildard and the chapel where St. Bernadette's body is kept in a glass case. Dinner and overnight in Nevers.
Day 5: Nevers - Lourdes
Board your coach and visit Clermont-Ferrand and Notre-Dame du Port, a Romanesque church built during the 11th and 12th centuries, and the Gothic Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral. Proceed to Toulouse for a visit to Saint-Sernin Basilica, the largest romanesque church in Europe. Continue to Lourdes.
Day 6: Lourdes
A full day of sightseeing in Lourdes. Following reports that the Virgin Mary had appeared to Bernadette Soubirous on a total of eighteen occasions, Lourdes devolped into a major pilgrimage sight, with over 5 million visitors per year. Visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, including a sacred grotto and two basilicas.
Day 7: Biarritz
Depart Lourdes and drive to St-Jean de Luz on the Atlantic Coast and enjoy its charming fishing port before continuing to Bayonne to to see the Cathedral Ste-Marie, built during the 13th century and part of the Way of St. James, before arriving in Biarritz for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Biarritz
A free day to relax on the beach and stroll around Biarrtiz. You may wish to see the Rocher de la Vierge (Rock of Our Lady). Farewell dinner and overnight in Biarritz.
Day 9:
Transfer to the airport for your return flight.
